SECOND PLACE IN QUEENSLAND STATE SERIES 2013/2014
Another wonderful weekend of Triathlon, and also the end of the Gatoratde Queensland State series for the season 2013/2014. Racking at 5am and race start ar 8.20am means a lot of waiting around in the morning. Lucky we have a good group to chill out with =)
Much sitting around...
Pretty grey and miserable conditions until our wave started. Was however the most windy conditions I've ever raced in. COuld not be down on my aero bars but had to hold on tight to the drop bars. Having a fairly deep rim on the wheels is not what you want when racing in strong cross wind!
About to hit the water, 50 ladies in my age group for this race.
A club member got a shot of me when sprinting the last 200m to the finish line.
It was the toughest race yet. Because it was a club champ and end of the series, everyone was there. My age group normally has about 30 finishers, today we were 50. Although I ended 5th today, it was probably my best race of the season. Here is the breakdown:
Swim (400m) - 7.47min
Ride (15km) inc T1 and T2 - 31.03min
Run: (4km) - 17.16min
Total: 56.08min

Just to put this in perspective, I have done this race twice before. As a matter of fact, this was the very first triathlon I ever did, exactly one year ago and I finished on 1hr3min. The second time I did it was in October 2013, and although the weather was perfect with no winds then, I finished on 57.48min. = Almost a 2 min PB in worst ever race conditions. Could not be happier!
And like I told you. I wasn't strong enough to maintain the series lead. Bianca well deserved the first place though after an amazing season, it wouldn't have been fair if she didn't win. She is not far behind the elite people so I was very happy with a second place. This podium place includes all Gatorade races over the season, so not only this last race. I never thought I would podium at all but there I am! My tri CV is now officially way better than my academic CV. Maybe I should just leave science and go pro. lol!
