DREAM TEAM

Publicerad 2014-04-09 09:04:40 i Allmänt,

Since the last race, I've done another race. As a team! I always wanted to try a team effort so me and my friend Meegan tried to put together a pure female dream team. She did the swim, I the bike and then we tried to find a superfast runner who could run for us. However all the fast ladies were on various weddings (that time of the year I guess) so my club mate Katie ended up running for us. Out of 9 teams competing, we were the only solid female team, beating 6 mixed and/or male teams to a 3rd place! Meegan was fastest out of the water and I was 3rd fastest on the bike, despite taking it easy as I could start to feel the first little symptoms of an itchy throat =S So the Staffy Lovers ended up bronze!
In this very last TQ race of the season, Nissan put a 30 000AUD car in the lucky price draw!!!! 10 keys were allocated out to lucky winners (not me unfortunately, but 3 club members got a key each). In a few weeks time, in a happy park day, all key holders will meet up and see who's got the winning key. Imagine if I got that!? I could have traded it it and bought bikes for my whole family!

Anyway, not very unexpecting, I ended up bed bound for two days with fever and headache. Luckily though, it didn't develop into the horrible flu which is circulating down under in easter times. I'm already feeling much better and ready to collect dad (!!!) from the airport tomw morning! Woho!!

YAY! I made it to the race pictures for the first time this season!
Kingy tri def has the best photagraphers!
Although the models are not always the best lol. On the last 200m.

Lats week of hard work before dad arrives to down under, how exciting!

EMMABODA SIMSÄLLSKAP

Publicerad 2014-03-31 12:24:46 i Allmänt,

Skoj!

KINGSCLIFF SPRINT

Publicerad 2014-03-31 00:41:44 i Allmänt,

Another beautiful morning in Kingy. Zelda was not happy with me when she had to be waken up at 3am and go outside in the dark as her step mummy drove off early early to beat the time difference between NSW and QLD.
And believe it or not, I guess the last weeks' thunderstorms and rain had cooled down the water and made the swim wetsuit-legal. Just. If the water temperature measured under 18oC, a wetsuit is required and if it is 18-24 it is optional. Above 24oC wetsuits are not allowed. The water was 23.8. Huh! But, all the same, wearing a wetsuit gives you more buoyancy (keeps you floating) so took my chance =)
Empty club tent during racing...
Pre group shot, just before I'm about to run down to the start line. To the far left is my new homie Marc (who accidentally entered the elite race and freaked out as this was only his 3rd ever triathlon). Very funny for the rest of us!

Hanging out with my new friend Riley post race.
But more importantly, how did I go?!
BAM:

Last time I did this race (as my second ever tri, I finished on 1.30. Should be mentioned I was a bit sick then but still. Peeling off 13 minutes in one years time and hitting the top of the podium. Very happy!
Swim (750m) (although my Garmin measured 1005m) -16.25 (2/14)
Bike (20km) inc T1 and T2 38.53min (1/14)
Run (5km) 22.00 (5/14)
TOTAL: 1.17.18 (1/14 in my AG) or 9/115 total (female)

Another medal to the collection =)
My club mate Hannah came second in OD (olympisk distance) in her age group and we are having fun with our medals. So. Another awesome race and beautiful memories. Tri season is coming to an end in Aussie, with only a few more races left. Lucky I'll be moving home just in time for Swedish tri season. =)

SINGING IN THE RAIN

Photo: Don't worry - it'll all be gone by Sunday (well, hopefully...)
Radar snapshot with the rain over Brisbane. It has been going on for a week and is still showering down. So much that our 10m pool has started to grow and is more or less an olympic pool now! Which on the one side is pretty cool!

TWILLIGHT RUN 2014

Publicerad 2014-03-25 06:49:21 i Allmänt,

Weather forecas for this entire week is RAIN RAIN RAIN. As a matter of fact, it is going to rain so much that there has been warnings about potential backyard flooding etc. Lucky me, Zelda and our new friends Meegan and Lilly (dog) took the opportunity to go for a superlong riverwalk before the sky opened up. We have created the Staffy Lovers mini group in which the super jelaous Zel and Lil are chatting along loudly in staffy noises any second they dont have our full attention. I'm so buying a Staffy!
On Sunday night, I also participated in the yearly Twillight run organized by the RunInn. In contrast to my half marathon through a cyclon last year, this year's run offered bright sun and 31 degrees heat still at 5pm. I also only registered for the 10km run this year as I wanted to push my PB down. And did I?
Yes!
Official result was 46min56sec for 10kms. Happy to maintain a 4.39pace throughout the race and still finish strong. On this blurry pic taken by Martina, I have only about 400m to go. Love this race!
I finished 7th in my age group of 299 (F20-29), or 36th out of 1256 females, or 166 out of 2057 males and females. (I love the stats! They have to be analyzed in all ways possible). Now im looking forward to my Sunday sprint triathlon in Kingscliffe. Come at me!

THINGS ARE DIFFERENT IN AUSTRALIA

Publicerad 2014-03-19 11:16:45 i Allmänt,

:S
Fick just min livs chock!

BODY PAINT

Publicerad 2014-03-18 22:15:04 i Allmänt,

So, it turns out I am pretty slack updating when there are no competitions on. What have I done instead?
Well, I half got in to body painting, which is awesome fun! Oh, I dont actually paint, but I get painted. Here is a group shot of our super-hero themed session. The good guys to the left and the bad to the right. I am painted as Saturn Girl. So for those who are new to body painting (which is growing a lot in Australia atm), EVERYTHING is painted, i.e. everyone in this shot is actually naked :S
I also took the opportunity to gain another Southbank parkrun win on Saturday. New PB on this fairly hilly course (22.27min - 5km). First female to cross the line out of 180.

The other main things on my list for now is to sell off as many of my things I possibly can before dad gets here. Already managed to get rid of chest of drawers, TV bench and my blueberry bike (:*( ) but the list is unfortunately still quite long and my room ís a mess. But it will feel good not to leave everything to the very last minute.

And my little baby Zelda had flees the other day, so me and my flatmate Marc were de fleeing her an entire evening. It was like staying at home with sick children. She is now de fleed and happy to sleep in my bed again =)

Oh, and I'm not sure I ever mentioned we've got a new homie? As Nina moved back home to Melbourne, we got another Mark in (so I'm now living with two Marks!). He's a ridicilous road runner. Gets up even earlier than me to run like 30km every morning :S So noone can longer call me crazy!

BRIBIE SERIES WIN

Publicerad 2014-03-03 23:47:22 i Allmänt,

Second triathlon in 2 weeks. Luckily enough I now have 3 weeks without races (except a 10km fun run).
Not many club members were doing the last Bribie race so I got company by my friend Simon and also brought my own little mascot to the race.
My results for this race were:
Swim (300m) - 4.37min (2/11)
Cycle (10km) includint T1 and T2 - 19.24min (1/11)
Run (3km) - 12.57min (1/11)
Which not only was enough for a race win but also a series Win for Bribie 2013/2014. Good times!
Bribie organizers had bribed about the amazing gift pack for series winners so I much looked forward to that. Not very surprisingly, this amazingness consisted of two pair of socks and a waterbottle (something we basically get in the registration pack for all other races). And the medallion was a piece of gold coloured hard plastic. At least, I have won enough bribie tea cups for almost the entire family to drink tea together =)
Sharing double banana with lil zel post race
Double banana
A collection of Bribie cups and the series winner award.

Next two weeks will be very much focused on work before its time to hit up the training for kingscliff triathlon in the end of March.

SECOND PLACE IN QUEENSLAND STATE SERIES 2013/2014

Publicerad 2014-02-24 00:08:49 i Allmänt,

Another wonderful weekend of Triathlon, and also the end of the Gatoratde Queensland State series for the season 2013/2014. Racking at 5am and race start ar 8.20am means a lot of waiting around in the morning. Lucky we have a good group to chill out with =)
Much sitting around...
Pretty grey and miserable conditions until our wave started. Was however the most windy conditions I've ever raced in. COuld not be down on my aero bars but had to hold on tight to the drop bars. Having a fairly deep rim on the wheels is not what you want when racing in strong cross wind!
About to hit the water, 50 ladies in my age group for this race.
A club member got a shot of me when sprinting the last 200m to the finish line.
It was the toughest race yet. Because it was a club champ and end of the series, everyone was there. My age group normally has about 30 finishers, today we were 50. Although I ended 5th today, it was probably my best race of the season. Here is the breakdown:
Swim (400m) - 7.47min
Ride (15km) inc T1 and T2 - 31.03min
Run: (4km) - 17.16min
Total: 56.08min
Just to put this in perspective, I have done this race twice before. As a matter of fact, this was the very first triathlon I ever did, exactly one year ago and I finished on 1hr3min. The second time I did it was in October 2013, and although the weather was perfect with no winds then, I finished on 57.48min. = Almost a 2 min PB in worst ever race conditions. Could not be happier!
And like I told you. I wasn't strong enough to maintain the series lead. Bianca well deserved the first place though after an amazing season, it wouldn't have been fair if she didn't win. She is not far behind the elite people so I was very happy with a second place. This podium place includes all Gatorade races over the season, so not only this last race. I never thought I would podium at all but there I am! My tri CV is now officially way better than my academic CV. Maybe I should just leave science and go pro. lol!

BRIBIE WIN

Publicerad 2014-02-18 23:12:32 i Allmänt,

Ops, been a while since updates. Work is very busy so gonna blame that.
Last weekend, I won Bribie supersprint (for the second time!). The competition wasn't great because a lot of people were doing the longer race so there was only 7 girls in my age group. However more exciting was that I placed 8th out of the 131 females from all age groups (and 3 of the girls ahead of me were supersprinting 12 year olds so they hardly count!)
Breakdown:
Swim (300m) - 6.10min (3 of 7)
Cycle (10km) - 19.07min (1 of 7, 4 or 131 out of all F)
Run (km) - 12.12min (1 of 7)
Total: 37.30min (1 of 7)
Crossing the finish line! So happy with my run, been a while since I subed 4.20min per kilometer in a race. Also beat my last Bribie time with 40 seconds, yay!
Collecting my second Bribie tea cup so now I can at least drink tea with company from the winning cups handmade on Bribie Island, lol!

What else has happened since last time?
Well, most importantly, I BOOKED MY TICKET HOME.
Im going to become Swedish fulltime again, starting just before Midsummer. If anyone has a job for me, hook me up =)

Also, Zelda says hi from a superhot down under. Posp play with her friends in the doggie park, lil Zel has got into a habit by which she lies down in the mud under the water fountain, while drinking from the running tap:

Upcoming weekend is the greatest race so far. im currently leading the state series. No doubt I will loose that lead in the coming race but I'm going to work my ass off to maintain second position! Fingers crossed peeps!

ANOTHER SILVERY THING

Publicerad 2014-02-02 08:11:50 i Allmänt,

Caloundra Gatorade, race 6.
It wasn't great in terms of fitness to have man flu the two weeks leading up to the race. My training have consisted of little lazy walks with Zelda, but I still managed to grab another silver medal, despite quite bad race conditions consisting of crosswind on the bike, swim against the tide, overcast and rain. This puts me in the lead for Queensland state tri series in my agegroup, 2 points ahead of the secod girl. It's quite awesome but I there is simply no chance I will win as there is one race left and she will smash it, no doubt. But nice to have a lead for at least a little while, and also proud of my second silver medal:
My splits were:
Swim (400m) - 10.23min (15/32 in my age group)
Cycle (15km) incl T1 and T2 - 28.53min (3/32)
Run (4km) - 18.50 (8/32)
Total: 58.07 (2/32)

I know noone probably cares about my splits other than myself but its good to have them summerized somewhere =)

MANGO SEASON

Publicerad 2014-01-25 00:09:11 i Allmänt,

Finally managed to leave my bed for an hour to head down to the markets where the mangos are growing bigger and bigger each week.
Still fevrish but I think I'm finally starting to get better, which is good because I have one major reason to actually race next Sunday. Here it comes: I am currently second in my age group in the Queensland Gatorade Tritahlon series (7 races in total in which your best 4 counts)! BAM Only 5 points behind the leader, which is a massive massive thing! If the leader (who I know, cuz she's a southbanker too) compete in either of the last 2 races, I have no chance of winning, and second doesn't give you anything. But I'm still so excited so I really want to do my best to get this title if I can. Had no idea I was up the top there!

Anyway. Another Saturday. As I'm still sick I'm just gonna work on my second paper from my home office amongst the palm trees.

CUDDLING A KOALA

Publicerad 2014-01-15 22:59:38 i Allmänt,

The line up to cuddle a koala at the zoo when we went there was way too long, so I created our own Australian safari in my backyard where we spotted both kangaroos, koalas, a billabong and a Wombat.
Calle has now returned to Sweden winter-wonder land and I am back to work. Im thrown between being very motivated to finish and not wanting to do this at all. I guess thats the rollercoaster of a PhD. I am quite over it but have decided to put in lots of work (weekends included) to get this done, so thats both exciting and scary at the same time.
The rest of January will just consist of work for me then there will be lots of races to mix it up with, which is good =)
We are going to have one of these super hot days today again, app Melbourne is reching 44 degrees. Pretty big difference compared to home I guess?

WIN WIN SITUATION

Publicerad 2014-01-14 23:48:59 i Allmänt,

Took Carlos with me to Robina Triathlon and he participated on my Blueberry bike in his first ever Tri in very hot conditions. So here he is, racing in his hippie Byron Bay singlet.
Carlos was happy just to finish the race as he hasnt been doing much training/cardio lately.
For moi, I CAME SILVER! Have been chasing a gatorade series medal for sooo long and finally made my way to the podium. Such a great feeling!
Here is the breakdown:
Swim (750m): 13.46min (12 of 26 in my age group)
Cycle (22km) including T1 and T2: 40.26 (1 of 26)
Run (5.6km-6km): 25.40 (4 of 26)
TOTAL: 1.19.52 (2 OF 26!!!!)

Silver!
Woot! Have races pretty much every weekend in Feb-April so hopefully I can get a few more of these!

PARK RUN WIN

Publicerad 2014-01-09 04:16:13 i Allmänt,

Hottest day ever recorded in Brisbane with temeratures up to 46oC. Luckily, at the time of parkrun, it was only 30 degrees and guess who won the female race!? Despite a very non-impressive time of 22.58min, I was the first out of 116 females across the line, that certainly never happened before!

GIRRAWEEN NATIONALPARK

Publicerad 2014-01-05 07:55:34 i Allmänt,

One of my favourite national parks is Girraween on the NSW border. It's like walking around on the moon (or what I would imagine it would be to walk around on the moon). So we decided to do some hikes there and camp in the wilderness while the rest of the world were drinking in 2014.
Calle getting attacked by a guana (taught him not to get to close to the wildlife in this country) =)
The junction walk
Me lifting some rocks on the top of the Pyramide track
The sphinx walk
Got recommended to visit some hidden waterfalls in The Channon.
Just having a chat to the locals...
Us practising our yoga poses
Got a rock over me...
And this is how we said we would never become like. Like two oldies camping in the wilderness, far away from parties, alcohol and people. Luckily we got company by a German and an Aussie and had a very nice New Years dinner together, fireing off some plastic pop fireworks as seen on the last picture. Bring on 2014. The year I said I will land when I was 21, at least for a little while...
